Joining Hands and Hearts

Welcome to Binding Threads!
May 19 2013:  Plan ahead, you Adirondackers,  for the June 8 Binding Threads Trunk Sale!  It will coincide with my 3rd Annual "I Am Never Having Another Garage Sale" garage sale.  I plan to sell at great prices some of the pieces that have not worked out at craft fairs, like the Upcycled Pillowcase Pinafores and the refurbished vintage clothing pieces I have picked up.  In addition, it is time to get rid of a lot of the excess materials I have picked up, including velvets and vintage runners and other table pieces.  The prices on those will be amazing!  Some of the displays I have bought or been given or made will be for sale, too.  My garage sales start at 8 AM, (no earlybirds, please) and I try to wrap up by about noon.  I will take cash or credit cards!  There will be lots of free things there from the garage sale, so "come early and often"!  A portion of the proceeds from the Trunk Sale will go to Reason 2 Smile.

April 7 2013:  Just finished a very exciting conversation with Mary, of Amazing Grace Vineyards in Chazy, NY.  She will be carrying some of my pieces in her tasting room this spring/summer.  Oh, goody!  A new place to road trip!  And, her wines are awesome!  Thanks, Mary!

April 3 2013:  Happy past birthday, Nancy, and soon to be birthday, Sara!  Some projects I have been working on for awhile are finally coming to fruition.  Please check out my blog for the story, then the At Home Shop to buy!

If you are new to the site, please be sure to use the contact form on this site to ask to see ALL that I have.

My name is Gail Meyer, and my company, Binding Threads, raises much-needed funds for Reason 2 Smile, the non-profit founded by Keela Dates to help fund the Jambo Jipya School in Mtwapa, Kenya. Keela's website www.Reason2Smile.org is a great place to learn more about Jambo Jipya.

I utilize many gently used and recycled materials in totes, toddler pinafores, aprons, and Lake Placid Pub and Brewery grain bags.  Your favorite piece of clothing may also be able to be utilized.  It is entirely up to you!

I am producing more custom items all the time.  Vests, scarves, and wall hangings from men's ties, handbags from maternity jumpers, totes, pillowcases, aprons, and quilts are all possible.  Actually, there is no limit to what can be made from your special piece except for what the material will tolerate.  Have a lot of lightweight wool sweaters?  I can make a lovely throw or braided rug for you.  Vintage tablecloths make beautiful skirts, and of course your vintage pillowcases will make terrific toddler pinafores.  Contact me!

Lake Placid Pub and Brewery Grain Bags

Picture
Thanks to the largesse and civic-mindedness of the folks at the world famous LP Pub and Brewery, I can bring you these delightful malt grain bags turned shopping/beach/boat/what-have-you totes!  And, they are HOT, HOT, HOT!  They are on the streets of New York, in coastal Maine, and on Cape Cod!  They come in orange, green, and blue almost all the time, and other colors when they are used at the Pub.  They come  in two styles; the one pictured at left and a slightly smaller one with no lining showing; more utilitarian, but still very nice!  Contact me for more information on how to purchase some.

Pillowcase Pinafores

Look in your linen closet.  What are you going to do with all those beautiful pillowcases you inherited from your grandmother?  I can make them into adorable pinafores for little girls.  Fun for everyday and special occasions, they are outgrown all too soon.  Buy one already made, or send me your pillowcases and have one made that is extra special!

Vintage Look Handbags

Picture
Designs from the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's are available in the vintage look handbags.  Pictured is a clutch with a hidden magnetic closure, and others have materials just as pretty, and when the design can handle it, a long handle to drape over the body or tuck inside.  See the Totes and Handbags Shop for other styles.

Repurposed with Love

Did you ever accidentally shrink your favorite wool sweater?  Many of us have, and now I do it on purpose with sweaters and other wool pieces I find at garage and rummage sales.  They don’t fray and can be made into lots of useful items, but my favorites are totes.  Local upholsterer Patricia Inslerman has donated hundreds of upholstery samples.  These, too, are made into totes, lighter and more contemporary than the felted wool totes.  Lined and with pockets, both styles utilize materials that might otherwise have been thrown away.
