Welcome!

Many thanks to the "Ladies of the Thrift Shops"!  I got great pieces because of your quality commitment to your communities, and it was really nice meeting you!  White Plains Presbyterian, the Rummage Room sponsored by United Methodists near Greenwich, CT, Nearly New (Episcopal Church) in Fayetteville, the Elizabethtown Thrift Shop, sponsored by four churches, and the United Methodist Thrift Shop in Keeseville.

My name is Gail Meyer, and my company, Binding Threads, raises much-needed funds for Reason 2 Smile, the non-profit founded by Keela Dates to help fund the Jambo Jipya School in Mtwapa, Kenya. Keela's website www.Reason2Smile.org is a great place to visit to learn more about Jambo Jipya.

I utilize many materials, gently used and recycled in the Repurposed With Love line of totes, pillowcase pinafores, aprons, and Lake Placid Pub and Brewery grain bags. With Mama G’s Canvas Creations, I use new canvas and other cottons to make fashionable and functional totes as well as absolutely unique floor quilts, which can be displayed or used as rugs. Your favorite piece of clothing may also be able to be utilized.  It is entirely up to you!
I find I am producing more custom items all the time.  Totes, pillowcases, aprons, and quilts are all possible.  Actually, there is no limit to what can be made from your special piece except for what the material will tolerate.  Have a lot of lightweight wool sweaters?  I can make a lovely throw or braided rug for you.  Vintage tablecloths make beautiful skirts, and of course your vintage pillowcases will make terrific pinafores.  Contact me!

Lake Placid Pub and Brewery Grain Bags

Picture
Thanks to the largesse and civic-mindedness of the folks at the world famous LP Pub and Brewery, I can bring you these delightful malt grain bags turned shopping/beach/boat/what-have-you totes!  And, they are HOT, HOT, HOT!  They are on the streets of New York, in coastal Maine, and on Cape Cod!  They come in orange, green, and blue almost all the time, and other colors when they are used at the Pub.  They come  in two styles; the one pictured at left and a slightly smaller one with no lining showing; more utilitarian, but still very nice!  Contact me for more information on how to purchase some.

Repurposed with Love

Did you ever accidentally shrink your favorite wool sweater?  Many of us have, and now I do it on purpose with sweaters and other wool pieces I find at garage and rummage sales.  They don’t fray and can be made into lots of useful items, but my favorites are totes.  Local upholsterer Patricia Inslerman has donated hundreds of upholstery samples.  These too are made into totes, lighter and more contemporary than the felted wool totes.  Lined and with pockets, both styles utilize materials that might otherwise have been thrown away.

Pillowcase Pinafores

Look in your linen closet.  What are you going to do with all those beautiful pillowcases you inherited from your grandmother?  I can make them into adorable pinafores for little girls.  Fun for everyday and special occasions, they are outgrown all too soon.  Buy one already made, or send me your pillowcases and have one made that is extra special!

Mama G's Canvas Creations

As a wedding gift to my niece Nancy in 2010, I made “Bean” style totes for her wedding party.  I got hooked on the process and began producing new canvas totes to support Reason 2 Smile.  Bright and pretty, the totes are fully lined and have an inner pocket for your keys, change, and other sundries. I have many different colors and patterns of canvas available, and would be happy to show you my samples if you would like one custom made for you or for someone else special.

Floor Quilts

Picture
I saw my first floor quilt in the winter of 2011 and realized I had a boatload of great canvas ready to be crafted into these  beautiful and functional pieces to support Reason 2 Smile.  The design and process come from a skilled quilter, Ellen Highsmith Silver, whose book "Floorquilts" guides and inspires me.  Like everything I make, one (or more!) can be custom made just for you.
